Ewa Dawid – the artist of CONVERSIONS

A conversion means in general „transforming the form of something.” The changes, conversions, presented in Ewa Dawid’ drawings are multiple. One or several parts of her artwork begin to live an independent life. The Artist presents an abstract theme and develops it freely in an open formula. For Ewa, a conversion is for sure a change, but her CONVERSIONS are radical ones!

In her black and white works, it is a break from the sense of reality the way we are generally perceiving it. According to her, the transformation takes place primarily at the immaterial, psychological level.

Art of transformation

We do not know if a transformation, a change, will result in positive aspects such as freedom, ethical progress, and intensive involvement. As they are taking place in crucial parts and elements of the presented compositions. In other words, we onlookers, are feeling the conversion, something new, impalpable, hidden behind spots and lines.

The conversion in Ewa’s art symbolizes a complete revolution in the area of central values. The artist sees the free assimilation of various graphic elements or a complete replacement of elements with new ones. We have the impression of negation of previous identities, change of value towards some source of authority. For instance a transition to another motive on which the new identity will be based. The conversion emanating from the work is associated with a drastic change in life involving a radical change in its most important aspects.

The artists vision

Acrylic paint is her favorite medium. It forces you to paint impulsively because it dries very quickly. This feature of acrylic paint reflects Ewa’s temperament. She acts impulsively and doesn’t wait too long between adding more elements to the canvas. The artist applies multiple layers of paint, adding and never removing elements. Thanks to this, she obtains an exceptionally sensitive and delicate effect. In conclusion, this allows her to achieve a balance. To create on the border of consciousness and subconsciousness. She reacts and paints without planning, with more impulsive than controlled decisions.
