Eva Davis RETRIBUTION – emotional expressionism

Eva Davis paints in the style of emotional expressionism. Its characteristic feature is presenting the world from a subjective perspective, radically distorting it and bending it to a very individual, internal approach. In this way, the artist enhances emotional effects in order to evoke strong moods or emotions in the viewer.

The process of change is the pretext for painting RETRIBUTION. Change surrounds us. Change is a constant process. We don’t know what it will lead to, we don’t know what tomorrow will look like. RETRIBUTION are dynamic canvases in the style of emotional expressionism, going beyond the conventions of informal and action painting. The paintings in this series are the result of mutations, distorting the initial form in the direction designed by the artist. From general to detail, from whole to detail, the artist adds new elements. They differ in texture, color – they mutate when viewed from different perspectives. This is the result of the materials used and the effects of light reflection on matte and glossy, flat and textured surfaces.

Transhumanism in painting

The series refers to transhumanism, an intellectual and cultural movement that postulates the possibility and need to use science and knowledge to improve the human being. The application of neurotechnology, biotechnology and nanotechnology is expected to lead to this. Eva Davis in the series RETRIBUTION is on the side of critics of transhumanist views, who recognize that the most effective form of improving society are ethical, not technological measures.

The artist creates a sense of depth. It achieves this through a variety of textures that give the images an almost holographic form. Davis focuses on alternating traditional and modern techniques. In his art, he is definitely focused on fluency, staccato and rhythm. Her acrylic paintings consist of many interacting layers of informel, which results in a surprising artifact.

Eva’s work has evolved in a continuous process from expressive representations heavily dependent on the art of informal to a new aesthetic of creating images of emotional expressionism. RETRIBUTION are highly physical, joyful and emotional. Eva Davis paints dynamic canvases, going beyond the conventions of the art of emotional expressionism. Images from the „New mutations” series are a double mutation. In the process of painting, from the initial random form, they change in the direction designed by the artist. Davis adds more elements and more layers.

All viewed images change depending on the viewing angle. Metallic surfaces, structures on canvas – they mutate when viewed from different perspectives. This is the result of the materials used and the effects of light reflection on glossy and textured surfaces. Eva Davis amuses us with mutations, showing that everything around us is constantly changing. In this way, the artist presents a unique approach to emotional expressionism.
